Identity theft may be divided into four categories: financial identity theft, criminal identity theft, identity cloning, and business or commercial identity theft. In recent years, reported incidents of identity theft are growing, and many of these instances have been directly tied into crimes such as blackmail, espionage, and illegal immigration. Financial identity theft occurs when someone else uses your identity to obtain services and goods. Criminal identity theft takes place when someone who is being arrested for a crime gives out your identity rather than his or her own. Meanwhile, identity cloning is when another person uses your information to assume your everyday identity. Identity theft is a frightening crime.
