Jacob Stephens

Jacob was tired of working in a lumber yard and had to stop. He was also tired of being beaten up and missing out on his family and his wife.

Growing up, he had always dreamed of working in IT. He tried to follow his dream into community college, but he dropped out to support his family. He could only ignore those dreams for so long.

Jake’s passion has been rekindled and he now has the tools to realize his dreams.

Jacob received an email regarding a career services call. He was then introduced to the Zero to Engineer program. Jacob says that something ignited inside him. “I was instantly hooked,” he said. “I did everything I could make sure it [applying for the program] could occur.”

He made it happen.

“I loved every minute of it.” “It’s so much fun to finally discover what IT/networking really was. To expand on it.”

Jacob has been supported by NexGenT’s “behind-the scenes” view every day. He knows IT inside and out, and can tackle any challenge with confidence.

He was looking for entry-level jobs when he found his new job. Jake, while waiting for a rescheduled interview was still waiting, walked into Feynman Group to ask if there was an IT person willing to talk tech with Jake while he waited.
The man who accepted the offer asked for his employment. Jake was a potential asset for the company.

Jacob’s passion for IT was evident throughout the interview process. He quickly earned his spot.

Jake started at $13 an an hour. But after only 31 days, Jake had gotten his CCNA certification and proved his IT skills without previous IT experience. He asked for $18 an an hour and was instead offered $20 an an hour.

He does what he loves every single day. He is a security expert, he manages operations, and he brings innovative ideas to his work to improve the company. He can jump from one ticket to the next and balance it all using the skills and knowledge he has gained through NexGenT.

Jacob feels like Jacob can finally breathe now that he isn’t being tossed around between temp agencies and production jobs.

He now works in a professional environment that values his opinions and tries to incorporate his ideas into the work flow.
