From forklift operator to IT Support Technician
Daniel Adams started his career as a forklift operator in a chain manufacturing firm. He was about a year and half into his warehouse career when he began to consider a change.
He realized that his passions were elsewhere and that this job was not something he wanted to do for the rest of his adult life. He decided to return to IT after receiving encouragement from his friends. He had been an IT student in high school. It was like he was reuniting with an old friend. He found NexGenT online while attending a Network Plus course, and decided that this was the right time to get his foot in the door.
He completed phase one in less than a month, and landed a new job position before he even finished the program. He was looking through job listings almost casually when he decided that he would try his luck.
He was stunned when he received a call back.
“They set me up to a phone interview. They gave me basic IT questions and called me back approximately half an hour later than we had finished scheduling the next stage.
He was offered the job the same day as his second interview. Although he was 6th interviewee that day, they were so impressed with his detailed answers that they knew that they had found the right guy.
Daniel was promoted to the position of IT Support Technician, with a $17.50 per hour increase — quite a step up from his previous employment.

Daniel sees great potential for growth in his new role, with many avenues to explore and lots to learn.

He was amazed at the way concepts were explained and broken down as he worked through the program. He was particularly impressed by subnetting, which was a breakthrough for him. He had struggled to understand it since high school. Daniel said that he is now able to calculate on-the-fly.
