The United States Federal Government is the biggest non–profit group in the U.S Every year, it generates trillions of dollars and rakes up endowments exceeding $400 billion monthly. In recent years, more and more non-profit organizations sprout like mushrooms; some of them survive the test of time, many do not. Non-profit organizations or NPOs are legally formed groups whose goal is to engage in, or support, activities that are of private and public interest. While carrying out these activities, no monetary or commercial profit must be generated. Non-profit groups face a lot of challenges. One of them is capacity building. Most NPOs find it difficult to sustain their operations due to insufficient, unreliable funding and high employee turnover rates. Another hurdle, called Founder’s syndrome, occurs when dynamic founders with very strong personalities exercise so much control over the group they leave little room for other people to expand the group’s scope or try better strategies.
